Frequently asked
The honest answers.
Do I need to upload anything?
SpeakResume does not accept résumé uploads, LinkedIn imports, or PDF parsing. Every résumé is built from scratch by talking — the user records each section through the microphone, and the extractor pulls structured fields from the transcript. There is no manual typing for the body of the résumé. The upload path is deliberately not part of the v1 product.
What if I don't know what to say?
SpeakResume prompts every section with a short, recruiter-style question, so the user is never staring at a blank field. When a section is missing something important — a number, a team size, an outcome — the extractor returns up to two short follow-up questions. SpeakResume never asks more than two clarifiers per section, and the user can skip any of them.
How long does it take?
A full first draft on SpeakResume takes about ten minutes. Most users finish the introduction, two work experience entries, education, and a skills list in a single sitting. The pace is set by speech, not typing. Building and previewing the résumé are always free; the user pays only when ready to download the final PDF.
Is my recording stored or shared?
SpeakResume does not store voice recordings and does not share transcripts. Audio is transcribed in real time and discarded the moment the user confirms a section. Only the structured résumé data persists, and it is tied to the user's session. Payments are handled by a third-party processor — no card numbers ever touch the SpeakResume database.
Why is there a charge to download?
SpeakResume charges only at the moment of download. Building, recording, editing, and previewing the résumé are free for both anonymous and signed-in users. The PDF download is the single paywall in the product. SpeakResume offers three plans — a one-time weekly pass, a monthly subscription, and a one-time three-month pass — and all three unlock unlimited downloads while the plan is active.
Is SpeakResume free?
SpeakResume is free to build, edit, and preview. Only the final PDF download is gated by a paid plan. SpeakResume offers three plans — a one-time weekly pass, a monthly subscription, and a one-time three-month pass — and all three unlock the same action: unlimited PDF downloads while the plan is active. There is no résumé-count limit and no tiered feature gating.
How does the voice-to-résumé conversion work?
SpeakResume converts speech into a structured résumé in two stages. The audio is transcribed in real time, and the transcript is parsed for section-specific fields — titles, dates, bullets, skills — as validated, structured data. The user reviews the structured draft, edits anything off, and confirms the section. A live preview updates the moment a section is confirmed.
Can I edit the résumé after it's generated?
SpeakResume supports full editing after the initial voice extraction. Every free-text field — the summary, each experience description, each education description — can be rewritten inline or improved through a small AI Writer popover that accepts a short directive. The user can also swap templates and color palettes at any time. Nothing is auto-applied; every change requires an explicit confirmation.
What templates does SpeakResume offer?
SpeakResume ships eleven résumé templates, ranging from traditional serif layouts to modern compact grids. Every template is available to every paying user — template selection is not part of the paywall. The user can switch templates and recolor the palette at any point in the build flow, and the live preview updates immediately. Template browsing and switching are always free.
How is my data protected?
SpeakResume processes voice recordings in real time and discards them as soon as the user confirms a section. Only the structured résumé text persists, tied to the user's session. Payments are handled by a third-party processor — no card numbers ever touch the SpeakResume database. Authentication uses magic links instead of passwords, so there are no passwords to leak.
Are SpeakResume résumés ATS-friendly?
SpeakResume builds résumés designed to be read cleanly by applicant tracking systems. The single-column templates use standard section headings, a contact block in the document body, and one linear text order that parsers follow reliably. The template picker flags which layouts are ATS-friendly, so the choice is explicit before download. Every résumé exports as a selectable-text PDF rather than a scanned image, the format applicant tracking systems read most dependably.
Can I cancel my subscription?
SpeakResume lets users cancel the monthly subscription at any time from the account page, which opens the billing portal. Access continues until the end of the period already paid for, then the subscription stops renewing — there is no early cutoff and no cancellation fee. The weekly and three-month passes are one-time purchases that expire on their own and never renew, so there is nothing to cancel.
Does SpeakResume work on my phone?
SpeakResume runs in any modern web browser on a phone, tablet, or computer, with no app to download or install. The build flow has a dedicated mobile layout where recording, editing, and previewing each work in a single column sized for a small screen. Because recording uses the browser microphone, a phone with a working mic and a current browser can complete an entire résumé. The finished PDF downloads directly to the device.
What languages does SpeakResume support?
SpeakResume currently supports English only. Recording, transcription, and the structured extraction that turns speech into résumé sections are tuned for English input, and other languages are not part of the v1 product. A user should record in English for accurate results, because non-English audio is detected and flagged rather than transcribed. Additional language support is not on the v1 roadmap, so building the résumé in English is the reliable path.
